So, who was this explosive eccentric that we're talking about? None other than the famous Alfred Nobel, the Swedish chemist with commendable entrepreneurship skills.
Dynamite was his world-changing invention. Brave souls were lost in the process of making his earth-shattering sticks-that-goes-boom.
Nitroglycerine was the main ingredient in making the dynamite. This substance is extremely volatile, being shock-sensitive material, was able to be tamed for safe-handling all thanks to his ingenuity and persistence. With the technology patented in 1867, and through his spirit of entrepreneurship, he gained an enormous amount of wealth!
When he kicked the bucket in 1864 in San Remo, Italy (hmmm tasty pasta!) He was filthy rich. Without anyway to bring along his cold hard cash into the netherworld with him, he drew up a plan to distribute his 9 million dollars in the form of prizes. Awarded to those who have conferred great benefits to mankind.
The Nobel foundation which was his greatest legacy stands today as the zenith of humanity's greatest achievements!!
